This month's quality is Nurturing, Supportive, Comforting
End of Summer Shifts.
It just seems like yesterday and we were all gearing up for the summer to begin, and now, here we are, at the end of summer heading into our fall routines. For some of us, it’s back to school. For others, it’s back to football season. And of course, the cooler nights and weather changes have us all feeling just a bit more frisky and alive. Right?
For some of us, however, the fall is just another season in a tumultuous year that has gone by too quickly, and has perhaps delivered some rather unpleasant feelings. For any of us who are in this last category, kindness really is the way. When you feel yourself dampening down into the doldrums, do something kind for yourself or a friend, and notice how you are lifted back up again. When you feel like you’re all alone and don’t have anyone to talk to, try talking to yourself through journaling or writing. Try talking to someone you haven’t talked to in a long while. Or, try talking to God. The results may astound you, and you may find some comfort in some small way.
I actually had the opportunity to hang out with my best friend since junior high this summer following our 40th class reunion. I honestly could not even believe that we are 40 years past 1984, but we are! My dear friend Kimby, sincerely to me, looked the same and felt the same energetically as she did when we met at age 12 in a Redmond Junior High math class. Kimby’s father, Bob, had passed away this year, and my dad, Jack is getting up in age as well, so we reminisced how much fun it was to be those crazy kids as well as the adult journeys our lives had taken. This time with my dear old friend was priceless to me–especially when I got to share some kindness with her through food, wine, and Kindness Coins.
This fall season, nurture yourself with something, or be that one who takes the time to nurture others who are going through change or challenge. You’ll find the upside of all of that is a feel-good vibration that just tickles your heart–and maybe even your nose!
